The Chicano Biennial (2005)

In March 2005 my submission to the Chicano Biennial at MACLA in San Jose, CA was accepted. I showed a specific variation on the Table of Things project. Besides the actual installation, which included a wall drawing and a collection of "things" on a table, a temporary webpage was created which showed a video of the installation with some notes:

The idea that I have for this installation is a crystalline table of things, the curiosities being optical in nature, the idea being that a microcosmic version of this city has been captured in the light of these glassy objects and that the volatile luminous being of the place has been magically transported to another sister place.
So, city as magical amulet or protectionary power fetish, city as fetish.

The setup up will consist of:
One square 3' x 3' table with a variety of objects on it, including:

manifestos concerning crystals and optics
moving prisms a la Botanica El Indio Amazonico, with photos and mirrors
cystallized plants wrapped in plastic
photographs in various sizes etc.
