Intersection: Daybreak Healthfoods/Botanica Poder del Mestizo (2005)

As part of the show Intersection, I was invited by curators Margaret Adachi and Walker to merge Botanica Poder Del Mestizo with Daybreak Healthfoods, a health food store on Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock CA. The Botanica continues to draw inspiration from its own history in a redundant, self-referential, creative process: contributing to the healing energy in the space were historic photos from the early days of B.P.D.M., painted portraits of ancestors, photos of celebrities who had frequented the storefront (Anthony Quinn and Robert Smith), manifested plants from the surreal underground garden as well as pamphlets and other information.
