TABLE OF THINGS/
PILLAR OF FIRE

This project, the “Table of Things/ Pillar of Fire” started as a collection in my studio. Over time, these objects, both collected and created, began to form a loose narrative.
For years now, I’ve been fascinated by the Latin Playboys’ two albums. In these albums, collagedsounds and strange music, foggy and shifting recollections and lyrics are used to define a landscape of a city in emotional flux. They’re at once works of deeply musical personal expression and a more collective spirituality.
It was my intent when putting together “Table of Things” to reflect that same wonderfully paradoxical approach. Using an absurd mindset, and a willed blindness, I created or collected these objects and made these images. The resulting space, activated by a participating viewer, becomes a loose microcosm of our world.
Each
piece forms an energetic relationship with another, for example the “Brown Bottle Shades” relate in some way to the two faced concept referenced in the “Janus” drawing above them. My intent was to create a small world of ever-opening relationships, ideas and voices, and through this small world to reflect the vibrancy and turbulence of our everyday experience.
